How Long Do Bamboo Sheets Last?
According to the Australian Sleep Health Foundation, the average reported sleep time for Aussies is seven hours.
That's essentially one quarter of every day spent in bed, not counting chilled out weekend mornings, afternoon naps and everything else in between.
Being such a significant amount of quality time that also has a direct impact on our physical and mental health, no one should be skimming on the quality of bedding products that we cocoon ourselves in every night.
Right now, bamboo sheets are taking the bedding world by storm, and for good reason. They're incredibly soft, eco friendly, help to prevent dust mites, and have antibacterial properties to boot.
But are they durable? Do they last long enough to justify the purchase?
Read on to find out.
How long do bamboo sheets last?
We get it, you don't want to spend a reasonable amount of money on some bed sheets, only to have them pill, tear, and turn a nasty shade of yellow or grey within a couple of years.
Thankfully, you can dream, play and rest easy knowing your bamboo sheets aren't going the same way as those white cotton one's you got from your grandmother for Christmas.
Why exactly?
Well, if cared for correctly, bamboo sheets can last for up to 15 years!
Yep, that's not a typo, you read it correctly - bamboo sheets can last for 15 whole years...if looked after correctly. If your ability to care for your bamboo sheets waivers a little, that magical number of 15 can fall down to about five.
So, how exactly do you look after them correctly?
How to best maintain your bamboo bedding
There's a number of things you can do to prolong the lifespan of your bamboo sheets. First and foremost, it's important to know what to avoid.
Avoid
Couple of simple rules here to follow:
- Avoid washing your bamboo sheets in any kind of liquid that may contain benzoyl peroxide or alpha hydroxy acids - these chemicals have a tendency to cause discolouration.
- Avoid any kind of fabric softener or bleach products.
Now that you know what to avoid, here's how to take the absolute best care of your bamboo sheets for long-term satisfaction.
Washing process
Using a washing machine, simply put your bamboo sheets on a gentle cycle, preferably in cold water but warm is okay too.
We recommend a liquid detergent, but if you would prefer to use powder detergent, be sure to dissolve it first.
Pretty simple really, but if you're looking for a more thorough breakdown of the dos and don'ts, you can check out our complete guide to washing bamboo sheets.
Drying process
We recommend avoiding using your electric dryer as it can sometimes cause the bamboo sheets to shrink, which is the last thing you want!
Air-drying is far and away the best method for drying your bamboo bedding products. It's as simple as putting them on the line and letting the elements do their thing. If you can, avoid putting your bamboo bed sheets in direct sunlight.
That's essentially it, but for optimal longevity consider these points as well:
- If you need to remove a stain, any oxygenated laundry detergent or stain remover will suffice, as long as they don't have any of the chemicals to avoid that we mentioned earlier.
- When not in use, store your bamboo bedding in a cool, dry area away from any direct sunlight.
Does bamboo fabric tear or pill easily?
Thanks to the inherent nature of the bamboo plant and how bamboo fibres - which are natural fibers - are made, your bamboo bedding will never pill or tear.
Bamboo bedding is made with fibres that are stretched across the entire length of the sheet, which securely anchors the threads throughout the fabric, essentially eliminating any possibility of the material tearing or pilling.

In Summary
Not all bamboo sheets will last 15 years as natural wear and tear will often play its part.
However, if you follow these simple guidelines to take the best possible care of them, they will easily last significantly longer than any cotton sheets currently on the market.
If bamboo sheets are on your wish list, you can sleep risk-free for 100 nights with our bamboo bed sheets and if you're not satisfied, simply return them.
We donate any unwanted returns to those most in need within our communities, so you don't have to worry about them going to waste.
